Hawker food Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur Hawker Centres / Hawker Food Guide

Kuala Lumpur has plenty of indoor and outdoor hawker centres all around the city.

Hawker food can be found scattered everywhere around the city.

In Chinatown, Jl Petaling is closed to traffic, tables are set up in the evening outside Chinese restaurant. Puduraya bus station also has a variety of hawker food and many open very late.

Night markets for Malay food include the Sunday Market (Kampung Bahru LRT Station) and the Chow Kit Market. Night owls head to Chow Kit for the all-night nasi lemak hawker food stall.

Little India’s Saturday night market has many hawker food vendors and a great atmosphere. Jl Masjid India is almost as good any evening of the week for Indian hawker food.

Jl Alor has some of the best Chinese hawker stalls and coffee shops in Kuala Lumpur, serving excellent ikan baker (grilled fish). Hawker food stalls start after dark around 7pm and close late.

In Bangsar, the indoor Jl Telawi Tiga Food Centre is a popular alternative to the area’s pricier competition; hawker food stalls also set up on the street in the evening serving up Malay, East Asian and South Asian food.

Chinatown’s Central Market has an average selection of hawker food on the second level. KL Sentral has a large food court on the upper floors.

Most of the shopping malls have food courts selling slightly more expensive hawker food in air con surrounds.

** If you only have ONE choice, just head for Jl Alor, you won’t be disappointed! And remember, if there’s a long queue for a particular hawker food stall, it usually means that the food is REALLY good! Trust the locals and their stomach.
