Hari Raya Puasa
Hari Raya Puasa or Hari Raya Aidilfitri is one of the most significant celebrations for Muslims. The celebration is determined by sighting of the new moon on the day, before the next month on the Muslim calendar, Syawal. Hari Raya Puasa signifies the end of the fasting season of Ramadan, a month-long fasting period and a time for abstinence, reflection and worship. The words ‘Hari Raya’ mean ‘day of celebration.’ Many mistake Hari Raya Puasa for the Muslim New Year but it is not.
Open house invitation for friends and relatives to come to their house is practiced during Hari Raya Puasa. You can expect to taste a wide variety of traditional Malay delicacies, and the Muslims also give packets (usually green in color) of money to kids when they go visiting.
The celebration of Hari Raya Puasa lasts for a month but most it is concentrated in the first three days.
