Calvin Kwok
Born, bred and schooled within the vicinity of George Town , Penang has been my home for over twenty years.
As a way of saying ‘Welcome to Penang’, I would like to share scenes of Penang with you from my perspective as a keen amateur photographer.
My thoughts through the lens
My thoughts on photography are rather simple; be passionate and always be ready to seize the moment. At times, life flickers in a fleeting moment; it is up to us to capture that magical moment and store it in our memory vault or let it go by aimlessly. Having said that, photography is my form of escapism into another world; I believe it could be yours too.
Through this photographic journey, I intend to give you an idea on what I was thinking when composing a shot and let you feel as though you were there next to me when I pressed the shutter, hence the title of this column.
Well, in case you are wondering, these are usually the items in my backpack:
1. Nikon D40 camera body
2. Tamron 18-200mm lens
3. Nikon SB-600 speedlight
4. Hoya UV filter (x1)
5. Kenko polarizing filter (x1)
I try my best to limit the things I carry – walking around for hours with a backpack during the morning and midday sun can be pretty taxing.
Nevertheless, it is the passion and determination that spur us on. We are, I could say, both masters and servants of our passion in this wide photographic spectrum.
If you have any question, comment or feedback, I would love to hear from you – my email: shutterspeed9 @ gmail.com | my photoblog: Shutterspeed
Till then, I hope this column could inspire you to go outdoors (and indoors too!) and shoot your surroundings. Be proud of who you are and where you come from.
Happy shooting!
